A CLOSER LOOK

How to recognize it

Thin, irregular, sometimes butterfly-shaped slices with rough brown edges and pale yellowish cut surfaces. Appearance alone is not a safe identification method.

In the kitchen

Simmered with other herbs in broth, often inside a cloth bag that is removed before serving.

Distinct from Chinese angelica root. Plain dried slices and wine-processed forms differ; check the product and recipe. This is an ingredient description, not a treatment or dosing guide.
