Open the parcel carefully, let steam escape and eat the chicken inside. Leave the paper aside; watch for bones as you separate the meat.
The parcel holds hot juices and may contain bone-in chicken. Soy sauce may contain soy and wheat, and peanut oil may be used. Check the actual marinade and frying oil for your dietary needs.
Chicken makes this neither vegetarian nor vegan. The representative marinade has no chili, though ginger and spices add pungency. Seasonings vary; some versions also use baijiu, so ask if avoiding alcohol.

A LITTLE SOMETHING TO READ
Story & history
A banquet chicken wrapped in Wuzhou craft
Named for the Yukou paper wrapped around it, Wuzhou paper-wrapped chicken has a history on local banquet tables. Wuzhou restaurant cooks refined its cutting, seasoning and heat control during the Republican period; after a quieter stretch, chef Chen Beishui helped bring the technique back into view with a Beijing demonstration in the 1980s. The craft joined Guangxi’s regional intangible-heritage list in 2016.
