At the table
Ask for a brewed cup, not a piece to eat. The leaves are loosened, infused in hot water or simmered, then strained. Sip the tea and let it cool.
Contains caffeine; it is not caffeine-free herbal tea. Avoid very strong or scalding tea. Check packaged tea is dry and free of musty or sour smells.
Some preparations add milk, butter, sugar or salt. Ask “不要奶、酥油和糖” for a version without milk, butter and sugar. Plain tea and a milk-tea preparation are different versions.

The craft behind the golden specks
This account describes a tradition or story, rather than an established historical fact.
Makers select and press dark tea leaves, then control warmth and humidity during a “flowering” stage. The small golden specks form during this process; they are not added flower petals. The work links Jingyang to a distinctive compressed-tea tradition.
